What is a minor cut?

Most cuts are defined as minor, and they occur when the surface layer of the skin is broken. Typically they are suffered as a result of accidents with knives or scissors in the kitchen, or as a result of falling on hard or rough ground. Minor cuts can be treated at home using the following steps:

1. Stop the bleeding - Minor cuts will usually stop bleeding after 5-10 minutes. If the cut is still bleeding after this period, apply gentle pressure with a clean cloth or bandage for 20-30 minutes. If the blood continues to flow after 30 minutes, seek medical assistance.

2. Clean the wound - Rinse out the wound with clean water. If dirt or debris remains in the wound after washing, use sterile tweezers (boiling water will sterilize tweezers) to remove the debris. If necessary the wound should also be disinfected before it is covered.

3. Cover the wound - Bandages help keep the wound clean and keep water, dirt and germs out. Clinical studies also show that a covered wound will heal up to 20% faster than a wound left open to the air. COMPEED® Invisible Healing has the same effect as covering the wound with a normal bandage as it prevents the wound from drying out.

4. Look out for signs of infection - If the wound isn't healing or you notice anything unusual such as redness, increasing pain, swelling or a warm sensation, consult your doctor.
